The War Room series is inspired by the war room from the film, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1964. The idea with this series is to paint war rooms over existing paintings of interior spaces, mostly migrant boat or slave ship interiors. Bits of these are left poking through in places, not obliterated entirely, as everything that happened in these previous spaces was likely the consequence of decisions made in war rooms like these.
